General information about the RYL service - content and updates
What is the RYL service?
The RYL service is Rakennustieto’s digital licence-based information service that brings together the general quality requirements for construction (RYL) from various sectors such as infrastructure construction, building services, and repair construction.
The service provides up-to-date and versioned content, which is regularly updated based on committee work. Users can efficiently search for information, refer directly to RYL sections in documents, and utilise the AI assistant Alvari to interpret content in different languages.
Which RYLs does the RYL service include?
The RYL service currently includes Infra-, Maa-, Kiinteistö-, Talotekniikka-, Korjaus-, Sisä-, and RunkoRYL.
InfraRYL – the general quality requirements for infrastructure construction, guiding design, implementation, and quality assurance in Finland. It serves as the industry’s common standard ensuring the technical and functional quality of structures.
MaaRYL – the general quality requirements for earthwork, guiding tasks such as earth, foundation, and rock construction as well as yard areas and municipal technical systems implementation. It provides designers and contractors with uniform instructions for high-quality and good construction practice compliant building.
KiinteistöRYL – the general quality requirements for property services, guiding property maintenance, cleaning, waste management, and technical systems upkeep. It offers property industry actors a common foundation for high-quality and consistent property management.
TalotekniikkaRYL – the general quality requirements for building services construction, guiding HVAC, cooling, fire safety, and building automation systems implementation among others. It acts as a tool for designers, contractors, and clients to ensure good construction practice and support contract preparation.
KorjausRYL – the general quality requirements for repair construction, guiding preliminary surveys, demolition works, and repair methods according to good construction practice. It assists clients, designers, and contractors in ensuring quality and reducing risks in repair projects.
SisäRYL – the general quality requirements for interior works in building construction, guiding for example the implementation of partition walls, floors, and surface structures according to good construction practice. It provides an up-to-date and uniform basis for designers, contractors, and developers for high-quality interior construction.
RunkoRYL – the general quality requirements for structural works in building construction, guiding for example concrete, steel, masonry, plastering, and timber structures implementation. It serves as a common tool for construction project parties to ensure quality and support contracts.
Are the RYLs available in book form?
RYLs are currently published only in the RYL service – books are no longer published.
How often are the RYLs updated?
The contents are regularly updated based on committee work. For example, InfraRYL and MaaRYL are updated twice a year: updates take place in December and June. Regarding TalotekniikkaRYL, the aim is to publish updates annually, and these are done in November.
Is RYL available in English?
RYL (General quality requirements for construction works) is not available in English as it is primarily designed for the needs and standards of the Finnish construction sector.
The RYL content is directly related to Finnish building regulations and practices, so translation into English has not been deemed necessary.
